New report "The Circular Economy for Plastics - A European Analysis" by Plastics Europe
The new report "The Circular Economy for Plastics - A European Analysis" by Plastics Europe provides a better understanding of the state of the Circular Plastics Economy in Europe and offers an outlook on the transformation still necessary.
To this end, an overview of the production, processing, consumption, and waste management of plastics in Europe is provided. Additionally, various recycling technologies and new polymers from non-fossil resources are presented. Thus, the report addresses important areas that are particularly relevant for a transition from a linear, fossil-based plastic industry to a Circular Plastics Economy. While the report shows progress in building a Circular Plastics Economy - for instance, the use of recycled plastic has increased by 70 percent since 2018 - there is still a long way to go. The report also addresses the existing hurdles and challenges, providing an important perspective on the relevant levers for the coming years.
