Elastomers – Advanced technologies for recycling

Elastomers can be found in many products and applications. In addition to tire applications, elastomers are used to manufacture technical products such as seals, hoses, cable sheathing, gloves and much more. While the collection and reuse of tires is well established, the recycling of many other elastomer products is not yet economically and/or technically attractive. Our next Fraunhofer CCPE compact "Elastomers - Advanced technologies for recycling" on April 25, 2024 from 10 am to 12 pm (CET) will address this need for action and initial solutions.

The online event will begin with the state of the art in elastomer recycling. This introduction will be followed by presentations on bio-based thermoplastic polyester elastomers and on the devulcanization of EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber) waste. After a short impulse, our experts will answer your questions.

Next generation thermoplastic polyester elastomers

Plastic products are under criticism. In the future, truly sustainable plastics must be built exclusively from renewable carbon (rC). Plastic recycling as an rC source will play an essential role but will not be sufficient under the assumption of constant plastic production. Therefore, virgin material from biomass is also needed!

Recycling rubber waste - rethinking elastomers

Elastomers can be found in many products and areas of application. Apart from used tires, which are collected and recycled separately, the recycling of elastomers is hardly possible in many cases, either economically or technically. New approaches and initial solutions for circular elastomers will be presented at our next Fraunhofer CCPE compact "Elastomers - Advanced technologies for recycling" on February 22, 2024.
