Fraunhofer CCPE compact – News for the circular plastics economy
Newsletter 01/2021
How can the transformation to a circular plastics economy succeed? Which innovations are winning the battle? How can materials and products be designed in a circular way? The answers require partners, creative ideas and experience from several sectors. This is exactly what we want to achieve with our new online event series “Fraunhofer CCPE compact” – our first topic “New possibilities for PLA – special properties under circular conditions” on February 17, 2021 from 14:00 – 16:00.
Fraunhofer CCPE researchers are working on developing technical fibres based on polylactic acid (PLA) for the melt spinning process – the basis for a new one-component composite material. This is exactly what Dr. Evgueni Tarkhanov will report on in the first event of “Fraunhofer CCPE compact”. Afterwards, Dr Elke Metzsch-Zillingen will show how the lifetime of PLA plastic can be extended by refined additives. These additives can be mixed into common plastic formulations, do not change the processing properties, but even stabilise the polymer.
Afterwards, we invite you to a virtual panel discussion. Here we will ask the question “How does PLA become circular?”. Anna Schulte (topic “Assessment”) and Ronny Hanich as well as Dr. Andreas Mäurer (topic “Recycling”) will give a short impulse. The panel of experts will be completed by Dr Stephan Kabasci, who has been working on bio-based plastic formulations for many years.
With the new event series Fraunhofer CCPE compact we want to inform you and present you with news about the circular plastics economy: short, clear, uncomplicated – in short, compact. This event will take place three times a year, each time with a different key topic.
